Yes, we can!!!

The American President. As if this title is not powerful and popular enough, President Obama was bestowed upon a new and more powerful one this time – Nobel Peace Laureate. When I read the news this morning during the wee hours, I was seriously, “Is it for real?!?!?” Honestly I don't think President Obama deserves to be a Nobel Laureate for his “current” candidature. Deep down inside he knew this.

The Norwegian committee announced President. Obama as the recipient of Nobel Peace prize for the year 2009 for his extraordinary efforts in strengthening international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples. I can agree that he promoted "international diplomacy" between the white collar politicians and bureaucrats across the world who makes millions and millions of $$$ every year in an economy when the prices of even mundane things are skyrocketing. But I'm highly skeptical about the ‘promoting-the-cooperation-between-peoples' part. Did he do anything tangible to promote peace that created an impact on the common people like us, let alone the sufferers and 'I-desperately-need-peace' seekers? The only instance I can think of is the moment where he promoted the peace between a white Massachusetts cop and a black Harvard Scholar. The war in middle-east and Afghanistan resulted in the death of thousands and thousands of innocent peoples. Did President Obama do anything to promote peace using International diplomacy? At least, even after swearing as the President of America did he pull out the troops from Afghanistan and Iraq? How can someone like President Obama possibly promote peace on one side and sign a hefty billion$$ check to promote the war on the other side? [No, he is not waging a War against terrorism. Wake up, people!!!] This just doesn’t make sense, does it?

Albert Einstein – one of the scientists I admire the most – discovered the phenomenon of photoelectric effect in 1905 and received the Nobel Prize during the year 1921. It took almost 16 years for the Nobel committee to evaluate someone like Albert Einstein who was considered as one of the brightest brains lived during 20^th century. Someone like President Obama, for reasons purely known ONLY to the Norwegian Nobel committee for peace, the honor happened just like that. Let me go one step higher. Mahatma Gandhi introduced the word ‘Ahimsa (non-violence) to the world and lived beside it. He executed promoting the peace during the time when the whole world was merely reading about it. Despite the extraordinary efforts of Gandhi both in India and elsewhere, the Norwegian Nobel Peace committee did not have the guts to stand up and acknowledge Mahatma Gandhi. Instead, they remained as faithful puppets to the Queen of England. The magnitude of fear the Nobel committee is entitled to get by giving the Prize to Gandhi is certainly much less than the magnitude of pride and publicity that they are going to receive after announcing the ‘undeserved’ President Obama as the recipient of Peace prize. And finally, not so long ago, the Sri Lanka army literally killed its own citizens in the Northern part. More than hundreds of thousands of people cried to President Obama for help. Did the incumbent Nobel Peace Laureate President Obama “who is best adjudged for “promoting cooperation between people” tried anything "fruitful" to stop the killing? Even today there are 300,000 people living in an open prison as refugees of their own country (Sri Lanka). Did President Obama do anything of the sort of ‘International Diplomacy’ to help the 'in-house refugees'? The ‘non-Obama’ version of the answer for the above two questions is “NO”. Oh wait; I know why he did not do that. Because the northern part of Sri Lanka has no oil or anything of that sort a politician like Obama will be interested in.

There is a main difference between Sir Alfred Nobel and President Obama. Sir Alfred Nobel made a huge amount of money after creating an explosion (i.e., by inventing the dynamite), whereas President Obama created a huge explosion (among the peoples’ mind) out of the $1.6 million money that he is about to receive. I am pretty sure he will donate the money to some charity to gain even more popularity.

Promoting international diplomacy is THE job of a politician/President of a nation. Also, International diplomacy and promoting peace are mutually “exclusive”. Zilch!

I was mad at the Nobel Peace committee as an Indian, and now I am mad as “one-of-the-people”.

Now that President Obama got the Nobel Peace prize, I guess someday I will get it too. And not just me, You can get it too. And you, the person sitting on the back row. And you the person hiding behind the tree. And you the person who is a living dead in Sri Lanka. And you the person who lost the arms and legs in Iraq war. And you Mr. Osama Bin Laden. And you ex-President Pervez Musharaff. I finally understood the meaning of Obama’s election mantra - “Yes, we can"!!!

Resident Alien

'Mother India’ is and always will be my heart and blood, but the feeling of ‘Indian’ is becoming an alien to me to these days.

GradS' Anatomy!!

Both I and my friend Hazem talk about Sitcoms and stuff, and suddenly he come up with this idea that there should be a TV show that is all about the Graduate students. He even christened the show - GradS' Anatomy. A detailed examination on the lives of Graduate students with no obvious/intended reference to the famous TV show Grey's anatomy.

Graduate students in general hold a special place in the society and not just in school. On the one hand, the university considers them as students to suck tuition and other fees, however, on the other hand they are considered as employees to do hard labor for a bare minumum wage with a few vacation days. Whoever came up with this model did a splendid job. The payscale for an entry-level undergrad student is much higher than that for the Senior Graduate student or even Post-doctoral researcher for that matter, let alone the extra hours invested by these academians. Being a Grad student in school, however, has lots of positives. They are the frontliners in the battle field called 'Research'. They are the workhorses of the PI's (Project Investigators). They constantly unearth a lot of fundamental concepts in research & technology which was abandoned by the Industry just 'coz these concepts just don't 'spin' money! They are highly inept compared to their Industry peers but survive and produce maximum output with meagre resources.

And now, how cool will it be to have a TV show with a university setting that focuses only about Grad students? A TV show that protrays success, celebration, love, laughter, hate, anger, fear, embarrassment, pride, jealousy, melancholy, disappointment, bossy, arrogance, flirting, partying, and some PG-13 acts. There are over a million grad students out there in this world and they deserve a recognition in this form. The audience would certainly spare a commercial-interruped 30-mins to catch the life of these grads students LIVE should the corporate giants express their will to transform our ideas into actions!!!

Beginning at an End ...

Arrows sparked off to hit the target. The continuously changing 'mission' accomplished at destined point of time. The urge to stretch the elbows increases exponentially. This will never stop until the stars agree. And when they do, the Bow will rest. At that time, the silk worms find its way to the gallows.

Decoding the past

What was up in the North of Sri Lanka? A brief review for the informationally-challenged people. The long-standing ethnic conflict between the majority Sinhalese and the minority Tamils has reached a point where the Tamils have lost the *utmost trust* in Sinhalese government post independence in 1948 and demanded a separate country. (If it was not for the *Once-upon-a-time-Land-Lust-British*, Tamils would have secured their separate country long time ago!) All the peaceful ‘Gandhian-style protests’ appeared so good when we read on history books; in reality, none of these protocols worked for the Tamils against the Sinhalese government. In return, the normal Tamil civilians end up losing their life, their property, and top of all freedom. (Freedom – What an insignificant word for the minority when the survival is in question mark, yet a very powerful word for the majority to give license even to kill!). Not to mention the inhumane atrocities committed against the Tamil women of all age range. Surprisingly, the so called ‘Law and Order’ turned a ‘Nelson’s eye’ to these crimes. The Tamils from the organizations and political parties either only raised voice and did nothing, or laid face down and shot on head in a cowardly fashion by the Sinhalese army.

Bottomline. LTTE rise to the occasion and retaliated injustice with injustice. Freedom of Tamils and recognition of Independent Tamil Eelam is their *ONLY* motto! No other pro-Tamil organization stood-up against the Sinhalese army like LTTE did and no other pro-Tamil organization will ever stand-up in the future like LTTE do!

There is a saying in Tamil: “Naam entha Ayutham Yenthugirom enbathai nam pagaivargal nirnayikirargal” (Our enemies decide what weapons we hold). LTTE were not given enough choice by the Sri Lanka Army but to hold Guns and bombs and Grenades and the related!

To the best of *my* knowledge, LTTE is the only army in the world that did not commit any sexual activity against women. I have come across so many reports of armies from major countries like India, USA, Germany, etc. committing utmost sexual harassment against women, but the ‘disciplined LTTE’ were *NEVER* infamous!!!

A paroxysm of writing!

In less than 45 days or so (20^th Jan 2009 to 07^th March 2009), Sri Lanka Army has killed 2683 innocent civilians in the island of Sri Lanka. Or so, a shocking UN-report says!

Sri Lanka Army shamelessly pursues the strategy of killing of innocent Tamils under the name of *flushing the LTTE rebels*.  Even more shameless is countries like India, USA, Britain, China, etc. does nothing except watching this genocide happening, and giving politically correct statements to make it to the daily headlines.

The part played by ruling government in India is abysmally stupid.  Helping Sri Lanka Army in all possible ways *under the table* to kill innocents who shares an umbilical relationship with its own citizens in Tamilnadu is no way going to take India near the *superpower* image. Ever!  The double-standard image of ruling govt. in India has been the subject of ridicule during the past few months.

Repeated mentioning of the assassination of Rajiv Gandhi pertaining to this matter only adds fuel to the flame. Top of all, Rajiv Gandhi was NOT India. He was a mere opposition party leader when he was assassinated.

A fundamental question needs to be answered at this point. Why so many innocents have to die in Sri Lanka just because one party leader was assassinated 20 years ago? How many innocent Sikhs were killed when Indira Gandhi (Prime minister) was assassinated? How many RSS followers were killed when Mahatma Gandhi (considered the Father of India) was assassinated? These are some of the questions that the ruling government does not like to be asked.

Another shameless thing being done by the ruling government is projecting to the world ‘as if the whole India is supporting the Sri Lanka army’ when this is clearly not the case?

People get bombed every day. There is no clear water. Food and safe shelter is beyond a daydream.  The news of ruthless killing of innocent civilians by artillery shells of Sri Lanka army is surprisingly inaudible to the ruling bureaucrats in India including ‘The President of India’ Ms. Pratibha Patel. I’m not even going to say anything about our Prime minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh, who is a mere ‘puppet’ caught in the hands of the ruling Congress party. (Dr. Singh – I’ve immense respect for you, but I’m surprised to see what you have actually done despite what you can actually do!)

LTTE will never give up battle. As long as there is a last drop of LTTE blood, the war against injustice will not cease.

I know what will be the end.  It is your turn to find out!!!

Abysmal Stupidity

The plummeting Indian Politics knew no bounds. 

Like we do not have so many embarrassing moments enough, it is still going strong and bad. Derogatory remark is almost the mother tongue of these so called ‘politicians’. 

The latest *infamous* person added to this list is Varun Gandhi. In a public speech, he unnecessarily irked the anger of Muslims by saying: 

“If anyone raises a finger towards Hindus, then I swear on the Gita that I will cut that hand.”

“This is not a hand; it is the power of the Lotus. It will cut the head of the Muslims.”

“When my cousin who is seven-eight years old, saw Samajwadi Party's candidate's photo, she said Bhaiya (big brother), I didn't know that Osama Bin Laden is fighting from your constituency. “

As expected, Varun Gandhi is going to deny that he did not say this. That this case was politically motivated to tarnish the image of his as well as his party. And as expected, like the rest of the politicians, he will be given Leeway to exit only to say more *infamous* words, because, of course, ‘Law exists only for poor and middle-class people who cannot have monetary or political influence’.

Unfortunately, religion has become a strong weapon of hold for these politicians. You say anything in favor of one religion you get hundred claps. You say anything against another religion, you get thousand claps. In this case, for example, Varun pretends as if he is the representative for all Hindus, and also, as if he will safeguard Hindus against *anything*. 

Here is an assignment to you Mr. Varun Gandhi – ‘the Hindu saviour’. Since majority of fatal attacks on Hindus in India come from outside, there is a much better thing you can do for saving ‘Hindus’ instead of merely talking. Pack your bags. Go to the India border and let your action speak! 

....And I like to Question the world!!!

1.       How many of you who is reading this article is aware that Sri Lanka army is *killing* innocent Tamil civilians every day during the past *three months*?

2.       How many of you knew this but did not even care? 

3.       How many of you know that the NGOs like Red Cross and the media personnel are denied by the Sri Lanka army from entering the war zone so that the true nature of Sri Lanka army is not revealed to the public?

4.       How many of you know the Sri Lank Army bombed schools, hospitals, etc. causing a threat to survival of Tamils?

5.       How many of you know that none of the Sri Lanka dailies portray the real picture of *Safe zone situation of IDP’s*?

6.       How many of you know that press, media, etc. cannot work independently in Sri Lanka? How many of you know about the Sri Lankan Lasantha Wickramatunge (Sunday Leader, editor) and how cunningly he was assassinated just because he portrayed the real time situation in Sri Lanka and protested against the Sri Lanka Govt.?

7.       How many of you actually read Lasantha’s *last* editorial posthumously published by the Sri Lanka newspaper Sunday leader?

8.       How many of you, including the people who work for CIA, RAW, Mossad, ISI, MI5, KGB, etc. ,and the people from 32 countries included in the Wikipedia section on LTTE, actually subscribed to the opinion that LTTE rebels were *terrorists* without knowing anything about their ‘motto’ and their rise to fame?

9.       How many of you know that *History* once categorized Nelson Mandela as a terrorist, whereas today there is a statue of him in front of the parliament in South Africa and he is called *Freedom fighter Nelson Mandela*?

10.   How many of you know that the person who *actually* helped India achieve her Independence is ‘Netaji’ Subash Chandra Bose – a person who is categorized as terrorist but as of today he is considered a freedom fighter?

11.   How many of you follow the situation closely, tried to compare the number of casualties perpetrated by LTTE rebels and Sri Lanka army soldiers, in order to rationalize this: ‘who is actually perpetrating terrorism’?

12.   How many of you actually believe that the Sri Lanka Tamil people getting killed every day were the LTTE rebels?

13.   And how many of you know that the LTTE rebels were once *trained* by Indian RAW? 

14.   How many of you know actually know that the same India is now training Sri Lanka Air force personnel because it is easy to create air-borne attacks on LTTE soldiers than attacks on Land?

15.   How many of you actually knew that India is lending a very good helping hand to Sri Lanka Army to commit the worst *genocide ever in the history of the world*?

16.   How many of you know that India is helping only to prevent Sri Lanka from getting any help from Pakistan, China or western countries?

17.   How many of you actually pay veneration and respect to Rajiv Gandhi despite knowing much about him? And how many actually knew *what* is the consequence of Rajiv Gandhi – Jayawardena treaty?

18.   How many actually knew what the so-called ‘Indian Peace Keeping Force’ did to Sri Lanka Tamils, especially to the women, while implementing the Gandhi-Jayawardena treaty? 

19.   How many American and U.K bureaucrats well aware of this *genocide* situation but still did nothing except giving *politically correct* statements to make it to the daily headlines?

20.   How many of you know what the UNO did to Kosovo and what the ‘UNO-can-do-but-don’t-do-till-today-to-Sri Lanka-Tamils’ despite the fact that situation is almost similar?  

21.   How many of you know that the victory of Sri Lanka Army over the LTTE during the last few months is primarily attributed due to the help provided by India, China, Israel, Pakistan, and a few western countries?

22.   How many of you can guess the fate of the war between *Sri Lanka army without any external guidance* and LTTE soldiers?

23.   And how many of you know that in India you cannot speak against the government and in favor of LTTE, and failing which will lead to imprisonment – a cowardly act to scare citizens and put barricade to their freedom of speech and expression of opinions? (The person who I admire the most, the Tamil Director Seeman, was arrested under the 'National Security Act for speaking in favor of LTTE rebels. Any person with a *sixth sense* will actually find his speech extremely relevant, logical and meaningful whilst a very tiny portion of people who is ruling India felt it was against the ruling Congress party and the party chief Ms. Sonia Gandhi. And the bottom line, the person I admire the most, Director Seeman, is now behind the bars. What a shame!!! We claim we have the largest democracy ever, however we do not let a person exercise his freedom of speech and expression of ideas. What a shame, Mother India!!!) 

24.   How many of you know the duplicitous role by Ms. Sonia Gandhi? (Giving pardon to Rajiv Gandhi killers on one hand and sponsoring the Sri Lanka govt. with arms, ammunitions, technical device and money on the other hand to kill our people under the name of killing LTTE’s!!!)

25.   And, last but not least, how many of you do not know the answers for *most* of these questions but still show-off as if they are ‘rational’ persons, and considers LTTE as terrorists, and the Government in Sri Lanka are doing their best to help the peace prevail, and the casualties in war is very common, and the government can’t negotiate with the terrorists, etc..and blah blah blah ..and all that nonsense?
